'O Waimea i ka 'aina o na pu'u ka'a
"Waimea the land of the rolling hills"
Oli Ho'ea
Composed by Micah Kamohoali‘i
Ho’ea Waimea i ka ua kipu’upu’u
I ka mauna a Wakea I ka ‘ohu’ohu e
Ho'ea i ka 'ike o na kupuna
Ka leo ha’aha’a e hea nei
Eia no makou na ‘ili’ili o Haloa
Na kupu o ka ‘aina e
A he leo,
He leo, he ho’okupu
E ola!
Waimea is awakened by the Kipu'upu'u
The mountain of Wakea bedecked with mist
Let the knowledge of the elders rise
Humbled voices call out
We are the descendants of Haloa
The off springs of the land
It is a voice
A voice, an offering to you
Grant life!
The Keomailani Hanapi Foundation (KHF) received funding from the Administration for Native Americans (ANA) to implement a three-year Native Hawaiian Pilot Art Education Project called HOEA: Hawaiian ‘Ohana for Education in the Arts. There are three phases that compose an integrated system of learning; each designed to replicate the experiences of a successful artist:
1. Learning the discipline of the arts;
2. Building financial art literacy and marketing skills;
3. Planning, designing, and installing art exhibits and an annual Hawaiian Arts Market.
Community Vision:
The community vision encompasses three phases. The three-year HOEA project is the first phase.
The long-term community vision plan calls for two subsequent phases. The second phase is to build a Community Art Center in one of the Hawaiian Home Land communities in the target community of Waimea in South Kohala, Hawai’i. Once built, the infrastructure will be permanently installed within the Community Art Center.
The final phase is to transition the education structure into an accredited postsecondary School of Hawaiian Fine Arts.
Mission Statement:
“To increase the number, visibility and accessibility to Native Hawaiian Art and Artists”.
